Avoid disaster when using technology with the following tips:
- Safety
- Make sure all cords, wires, and connectors are covered with protective covers and preferably out of the walking path;
- Do not store or consume liquids or food near or on the table next to hardware;
- Ensure all students and parents have read and signed-off on the school's and/or board's Appropriate Use Policy;
- Uploading and downloading can cause serious technical issues, make sure you are aware of approved sites and applications;
- Make sure all technology is used properly and appropriately at all times;
- Keep technology stored in a safe, secure place.
- ITT
Consult your ITT person before you use or connect any hardware to the school's network. Failure to do so may end up in some really big problems for your school.
- Know the technology
Know the in's and out's of the program you plan to integrate. This will help you troubleshoot when necessary, but also ensure all students get the most out of the application or hardware, rather than frustration and/or annoyance.
- Stay current
Many examples of software as well as hardware become obsolete when a newer, better, more efficient example comes along. Save your school some money and research the technology that will have the greatest impact on all learners for many years. There are some really good blogs to help you stay current.
